Grown, and not yet shown
On the state that looks like nothing is happening.
There is a woman who has done the work. Genuinely done it — the uncomfortable version, over years, without an audience. And her professional life looks exactly as it did three years ago.
She is not stuck. She is banked.
The mistake is to dig further
When nothing appears to be moving, the instinct is to conclude the interior work was insufficient and go back down. More reflection, another framework, one more layer.
Sometimes that is right. Often it is avoidance wearing the clothes of diligence, because going inward again is familiar and letting something show is not.
What the work becomes
At this point the work changes shape entirely. It stops being about understanding and starts being about permission — saying the thing in the room, taking the position, letting people see a version of you that you have not run past anyone for approval.
That is a different kind of difficult, and it is the one in front of you.
