You feel the change first

The order is not a detail. It is the whole method.

There is a stretch in every real change where you can feel that something has moved and nobody else can tell. Your reactions are different. The thing that used to take three days to recover from takes an afternoon. You notice it in a meeting and think, that is new.

And the room says nothing, because there is nothing yet to see.

Most people quit here

Not because the work stopped, but because the feedback did. We are trained to check whether change is real by looking for it in other people's faces. When it does not appear there, we assume we imagined it, and we go looking for something that will show faster.

That is how people end up performing a change instead of finishing one.

What the gap is actually for

The distance between feeling it and showing it is not a delay in the process. It is where the change gets built into something that will hold under pressure. Skip it, and what you have is a presentation of growth that has to be maintained.

Held properly, the same stretch produces something that costs nothing to keep up, because it is simply true.

You will feel the change before anyone sees it. That is the order it is meant to go in.
